What to watch for: This will be the second game of a nice home stretch for the Boston Celtics. They’ll play their second of three straight games at TD Garden (which will be part of a seven-game stretch that includes seven home games).
And after two straight losses against the best teams in the West, it will give Boston a nice chance to hit the reset button.
Tale of the tape: The Celtics and Phoenix Suns have squared off once already this season.
Jaylen Brown did not play in the contest, but the Celtics still pulled out a 97-81 victory in Phoenix, led by Derrick White’s 22 points and Sam Hauser’s 16.
Last game: Boston took care of business in its last game, earning a 111-100 win over the Washington Wizards. They were up by as many as 30 points in the third quarter, but some turnover problems contributed to a small Wizards comeback.
Neemias Queta scored 22 points in the first half, and Jayson Tatum finished the game with 20 points, 14 rebounds, and seven assists.
Standings check-in: The Celtics are four games back of the first-placed Detroit Pistons but just one game up on the third-placed Detroit Pistons.
Suns check-in: The Suns have been floating around the seventh seed for most of the season, and that’s where they currently sit. They have a five-game lead on the eighth-placed LA Clippers but are just 1.5 games behind the sixth-placed Minnesota Timberwolves.
Phoenix lost its last game but is 6-4 in its last 10 games.
Ever since returning to the lineup, Devin Booker has been dominant. He didn’t play against the Celtics last time around, as he missed time with a strained hip.
But now, in his last seven games, Booker has averaged 29.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.9 assists while shooting 43.7% from the field and 41.5% from deep on 7.6 three-point attempts per contest.
Jalen Green has also been on fire. In his last nine games, Green has put up 22.0 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.7 assists while shooting 42.8% from the floor and 30.6% from distance on 9.4 three-point attempts per game.
Collin Gillespie and Royce O’Neale have both been on fire from three-point range. In their last nine games, Gillespie has shot 43.1% from deep on 7.2 attempts, and O’Neale has shot 42.9% on 7.0 attempts.
One fun play: Look at how connected the Celtics’ defense is on this play.
The Wizards’ spacing is off, but Boston knows it wants to pressure Trae Young. So, when Tre Johnson cuts baseline, and Will Riley shifts up, Derrick White, Hauser, and Tatum all switch seamlessly.
White ends up on Johnson, Hauser ends up on Young, and Tatum ends up on Riley, all without giving Young any space to shoot or pass.
The possession ends with Alex Sarr taking a contested fadeaway over Queta.
