Final: Red Sox 12, White Sox 11 (F/13) - Durbin hits walk off single in 13th inning, Red Sox sweep White Sox

The Boston Red Sox extend their win streak to eight games in a miraculous extra-innings comeback against the Chicago White Sox.

In the wildest game of the season, Caleb Durbin sealed Boston's second sweep against the White Sox with a 13th inning walk-off single.

The Red Sox needed their entire bench and bullpen to pull off an improbable comeback. Ranger Suarez pitched a short inning on the mound, allowing three earned runs and four hits in just three innings. Boston's left-handed starter struggled putting away hitters, leading to his early departure from the game.

Despite the White Sox taking a four-run lead to start the game, the Red Sox managed to keep themselves in the game. Connor Wong smashed a two-run home run in the third inning, and Andruw Monasterio and Anthony Seigler both delivered RBI doubles which tied the game in the fourth inning.

The White Sox scored an additional two runs in the fifth inning against Justin Slaten, who misplayed a throw to first base which brought home an additional run. Masataka Yoshida cut Chicago's lead to one run with an RBI double in the following inning.

Boston's bullpen kept the White Sox to seven runs through the ninth inning, and with the Red Sox down to their final out in the bottom of the ninth, Wilyer Abreu delivered an RBI base hit up the middle to send the game into extra innings.

Aroldis Chapman was brought into the game in the 10th inning, and he allowed a two-run home run to Chase Meidroth to give Chicago a 9-7 lead. Meidroth's blast against Chapman was his second home run of the contest.

But yet again, the Red Sox tied the game with their backs against the wall. Monasterio delivered his second RBI double in the 10th inning, and two at-bats later, Seigler drove in the tying run with a sac fly to center field.

In the 11th inning, the White Sox recored their own RBI sac fly against Garrett Whitlock, but the Red Sox responded with another sac fly RBI from Abreu.

Brayan Bello entered the game in the 12th inning, and despite allowing two singles, he limited the White Sox to just one run. Chicago's base running blunders prevented them from scoring their 12th run. On the second single allowed by Bello, Jarren Duran threw out Braden Montgomery at home, keeping the White Sox at 11 runs. 

In the bottom of the 12th, Jake Rogers tied the game again for the Red Sox. With a runner at third and one out, Rogers, who entered the game in the 10th inning, hit a deep fly ball to center field, bringing home Boston's 11th run of the game.

Bello pitched a 1-2-3 13th inning, giving the Red Sox a prime opportunity to come away with the victory. And with one out and two runners on base, Durbin delivered a single up the middle to bring home the game-winning run.

Tonight witnessed a complete team effort to pull off the victory. Boston used nine pitchers and three players from its bench in tonight's four hour marathon. The Red Sox also got this win without Willson Contreras, who was unable to play due to an illness. 

The Red Sox will stay at Fenway Park and start a three game series agains the Athletics tomorrow at 7:10 p.m.

The Boston Red Sox look to complete their second sweep against the Chicago White Sox this season with Ranger Suarez on the mound.

First baseman Willson Contreras is not in the Red Sox lineup Thursday. Caleb Durbin will take Contreras’ spot in the batting order as the cleanup hitter. Nick Sogard will also take over at first base.

Triston Casas faced another setback as he underwent successful arthroscopic wrist surgery on Thursday.
